Shay Lari-Hosain lives and works in the Bay Area, California, United States. Their studio practice—consisting of photography, video art and mixed media—explores how personal experiences of creativity and family history intersect with the politics of contemporary foreign policy, reflects on the shifting histories of the built environment, and investigates the ways time and memory shape perception in the photographic image.
Their work has been exhibited or is currently on view at large regional contemporary arts institutions on the West Coast and Midwest United States, including at SF Camerawork, the Triton Museum of Art, New Museum Los Gatos, Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Praxis Photo Arts Center, and Black Box Gallery.
They are professionally a graphic designer, and a writer whose work has been published in newspapers in California and Pakistan. Their work in visual art, design and writing has been recognized by YoungArts, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
