Begoña Lafuente, a versatile painter, traces her creative journey back to her graphic design roots in Madrid during the 1990s. Her early career as a graphic designer, art director, and illustrator laid the foundation for a remarkable fusion of classical education in Fine Arts with contemporary artistic trends.
In 2009, she embarked on a transformative chapter by relocating to the Netherlands, immersing herself in the vibrant local art scene. This shift allowed to infuse her creations with fresh perspectives. Begoña's work is a captivating blend of techniques, including painting, collage, drawing, photography, scans, and monoprints.
Her Semi-abstract portraits seamlessly blend familiar features with eye-catching abstract shapes, erasing the lines that separate faithful portrayal from personal interpretation. These portraits extract the essential facial and bodily traits into elegant simplicity, aiming to encapsulate the individual's inner essence rather than fixating on precise, photographic likeness.
By merging the recognizable with the abstract, the organic with the geometric shapes Lafuente makes funny games with our perception. As an observer you get the chance to shape the narrative and somehow become an active part in the piece.
Begoña Lafuente actively engages in local and international art exhibitions, sharing her artistic vision with a global audience. Her pieces have found homes in private collections across Europe and the United States. She draws inspiration from her studio by the picturesque North Sea in the Netherlands.
