My name is Iryna Kuzmina and I am self-taught Ukrainian artist. I was born on the 20th of October, 1972 in Tomsk, Russia. In the year 1980 moved to the city Lutsk, Ukraine.
Since 2006 became an entrepreneur and opened a business in the field of commercial vehicles maintenance and auto service.
In 2018, at the age of 47, I left the business. While looking at the growing number of rubber waste, I realized that I was betraying my values.
Shortly after, I’ve found and revealed my creativity in the original craft. Since then, I am working in the technique of volumetric
weaving using exclusively natural materials: threads, cords and hand-dyed yarn.
Macrame became my way of interacting with nature and humans, as well as a personal way of expressing my ideas and perception. This is always an improvisation without preliminary sketches. It is more of a symbiosis of what the threads and my state of mind dictate to me.
While addressing difficult topics, such as our destructive influence on the world around us, and unbalanced toxic relationships between people in general, I still want to encourage people to harmony and love, evoke positive emotions, carry aesthetics and beauty, give a feeling of warmth, comfort and security through this ancient weaving technique.
I have participated in the following art contests:
Colors of Humanity Art Gallery ''Blue'' (December 2019) (Exhibited on the website); Malamegi Lab (March 2020); The 14th Art Laguna Prize (2019); Luxembourg Art Prize (2019, 2020); Alpine Fellowship Visual Arts Prize (2020); Aesthetica Art Prize (2020); Canvas International Art Fair (2020).
