Jim Kuehn is an MSc. Digital Media Design graduate from the University of Edinburgh’s College of Art. He is a digital media artist whose fascination with electronics has been the cornerstone of his creative journey. From crafting his first video game in grade school to exploring the vast possibilities of the ultra-contemporary technologies, Jim’s work meanders through the realms of film, 3D, interactive media, and newfound love of electronic sound.
His current artistic endeavours delve into the collision of technology with nature and the concept of digital self and identity, posing the question of whether the digital frontier can offer a more equitable space. Jim employs a myriad of interactive tools, from arcade buttons to stomp pedals, projecting his creations onto screens and speakers, thus transforming digital media into multi-sensory experiences.
In 2018, Jim’s dissertation project was honoured with a Digital Alberta Ember Award for interactive installations, marking a significant milestone in his career. His vision and expertise led him to co-curate and participate as a digital artist in the 2024 ‘Urban Trees’ exhibition, an immersive multi-sensory experience. Furthermore, in 2020, he produced Medicine Hat’s ‘PULP Media Arts International Film and Animation Festival’, showcasing his commitment to fostering the digital arts community.
