Monika Kubinska (1966)
A middle-class visual artist who has been active on the Slovak and international art scene since the early 1990s. Since their early work, they have been working with their husband Bohuš Kubinský on generous "site-specific" installations with a significant representation of non-classical media and multimedia. Monumental projects, such as Story (Trnava, SK 1997), Hall (Šamorín, SK 1999), První linie (Prague, CZ 2014), Level (Košice, SK 2016), Cache (Topoľčany, SK 2017) and To Cache (Šamorín, SK 2018), (Kunstverein Passau DE 2019), (Museum of Applied Arts Prague, CZ 2019), Movement of Memory (New Synygóga Žilina, SK 2019-2020), process their personal comments on depersonalized, generally valid ethical frameworks, using for their mediation suggestiveness and emotional feeling of the work. They often respond to the context of the space into which they enter with their works and emphasize its authentic poetics. In addition to a common creative line, the artists have been working on the development of individual authoring programs since their student days:
In 1997, they received a Jackson Pollock Foundation scholarship in New York.
Maliark's recent work is characterized by expansion beyond the reduced image area. Her painting compositions are literally "built" on an architectural floor plan or sculpturally modeled in such a way that they deny two-dimensionality in heavy reliefs or interlaced assemblages. Another way of decomposing the painting area is to compose monumental altarpieces - as contemporary variations of the traditional altarpiece with folding wings. Exhibition "Joy - Bloodiness" gallery Médium Bratislava SK 2017.
In 2018, the One Table project was created under her authorial leadership, in which she reflects on belonging, the importance of communication, human interaction and living together the present moment. In an unusual format, he invites other artists to a common table and leaves one empty seat reserved for the spectator. The borderline format on the border of collaborative site-specific installation, happening, residence and open call in the way of "carte blanche" appeals to artists who have already exhibited in the given spaces and in a way reacted to the genius loci of the place. So far, it has implemented five editions of this project:
