Julia Kornelsen is a contemporary artist based in Germany. Her practice explores questions of identity, memory, and inner transformation, examining how life experiences—without dividing them into good or bad—shape who we become. Rather than offering definitive answers, her work invites viewers to reflect on the processes through which identity is formed.

Working primarily in large-scale figurative oil painting, Kornelsen creates layered visual narratives in which birds, fabric, gestures, and silence function as recurring metaphors for memory, vulnerability, and resilience. Her paintings are not illustrations of specific events but spaces for contemplation, allowing each viewer to discover personal meaning within the imagery.

At the heart of her practice is the ongoing series A Time to Gather Stones, a meditation on the experiences that shape human identity. Through symbolic compositions and emotionally charged atmospheres, Kornelsen explores what remains within us after time has passed—and ultimately, what makes us who we are.
