Tiko Kerr has been drawing and painting his entire life and dispatched his initial undergraduate degree in pre-medicine to became a full-time artist in 1980. Since then, Kerr's work has been exhibited in a consistent series of solo and group shows in public and commercial galleries to the present day. Kerr is hard-working, prolific, and is extremely committed to challenging himself by exploring new methodologies and practices. His work is therefore constantly evolving. In addition to his strong foundation in drawing and painting, Kerr's practice grew exponentially a decade ago when he began including collage into his process, which has lead him to his recent investigations into 3D collage in the form of relief wall sculptures and assemblages, both of which he finds to be exhilarating. Kerr enjoys painting murals, installation and printmaking as well. He relishes collaboration with other artists and/or arts organizations and has painted in performance, designed sets for theatre and ballet and has art-directed documentary film. Over the years Kerr has been awarded a list significant commissions and residencies. Tiko Kerr is very passionate about teaching and lecturing and has a long and fierce commitment to social activism on issues relating to HIV, housing and children's security. He lives with his partner of 39 years in Vancouver, where he has his studio. Kerr balances his artistic life and home life with a nearly 20 year long regular routine of ocean sculling.
