Akiko Kayano – born in Tokyo, Japan.
She graduated in 1993 in Painting (Nihonga, traditional Japanese art) from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
In 1994, she won first prize in the art competition organized by the City of Urayasu (Chiba, Japan).
Since moving to Florence in 1995, she has exhibited her works internationally in Japan, the USA, Italy, China, Latvia, and South Korea.
She earned a doctorate in Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, focusing on abstract painting using traditional Japanese materials.
Since 2007, she has lived and worked in Prato, Italy.
Her current practice explores the expressive potential of Nihonga materials in contemporary abstract compositions,
combining tradition with modern visual language.
