Josie Wadelton is an Italian-born Melbourne based artist whose studio-based practice focuses on painting, collage, installation art and new media. She is a long-time resident artist of Artist's Studio 106 in St Kilda and has been involved in many group shows. She has had several solo exhibitions in Melbourne. Josie's work has been featured in the films "A Beautiful Request", "The Dream Children", 106 Artists: Follow Your Dreams" and "Golden Parrots at the Gallery". Josie regularly collaborates with fellow Artist's Studio 106 resident artist and filmmaker, Katrina Mathers. Katrina has made many short films and won awards at festivals around the world. Katrina builds on Josie's original artistic vision to help bring each moving image concept to life as a stand-alone piece.A major focus in Josie's practice is to express the inward significance of an art work. What is represented on the physical level has a cryptic hidden meaning; hence her interest In language, numbers and codes.Influences for Josie include Surrealism, Minimalism, and Abstract Expressionism. She derives inspiration from the language and structure of poetry, and scientific terminology.
