Takehiro Kato is a mixed media artist from Kanazawa, Japan, and the originator of Poisonous Pop — a practice in which kawaii becomes a weapon and cuteness delivers what cannot otherwise be said.
His characters arrive as invitations: oversized eyes, neon palettes, hand-scrawled text — manga grammar used as camouflage. Beneath lies obsessive linework and the suppressed mind made visible. Each work is an anatomical diagram of the psyche, informed by his background in counseling.
MFA, Onomichi University (Japan). Exhibited in New York (2018) and London (2019). Commercial work: New Balance Japan, Toyota Industries Corporation.
Works in crayon, ink, sumi, acrylic, colored pencil, and digital collage — editions and mixed media on canvas.
