I studied art and advertising design at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas U.S.A., receiving my BFA degree. I worked in the graphic design field for many years, then went back to university to study Information Systems, receiving my MIS degree. I have always continued to create art. When I was in my twenties, I was listed as one of Texas's most promising young artists. In the last 4 years, I have been seriously creating at a steady rate.
I create art to make sense of my inner world and the subjects and concepts which fascinate me. I am motivated to create art by the beauty and complexity of the life I see around me.
I am influenced by the artworks created by the people of New Guinea, Australia, and Panama. I am also influenced by folk art, religious imagery, and dreams. I am extremely interested in microbiology, specifically viruses, bacteria, fungi, and internal bodily processes. To me, the internal beauty and conflicts of microorganisms mimic our human lives. Microorganisms move, gather food, parasitize, and eat each other, and live in complex environments. Humans also move, gather food, emotionally parasitize each other, eat other life forms, and live in complex environments.
My artistic process involves spontaneity, especially in the initial stages. I start a painting with only a feeling regarding the subject. Paint is my preferred medium. The act of painting allows me to express my ideas quickly.
In summary, I create colorful, mystical, and complex works of art and I hope viewers will find my artwork interesting and challenging.
