My Name is Benjamin Kamps, born in New York city in 1999, originally form Munich and raised in Rome. My mediums are Installation, Video-performance, Painting and Sculpture.
My research is identified by a reflection on the conceptual architecture of human existence.
How do we behave in a world where our being is constantly shaped by technology, culture and external pressures? How do we construct our identities in this fast paced, interconnected world? How does personal and collective experience shape who we become? How do traumatic experiences impact our psychological wellbeing?
I work with materials such as metal, leather pelts, soil, water, carbon, plants and textile.
Being materials that mutilate and change over time, I have integrated this transformation into my practice, allowing this change to inform the work as time passes. These diverse materials have pushed me to learn new techniques as well as deepening my knowledge with traditional craftsmanship.
The creative process is the foundation of my research. Consisting of actions that are documented through video. An evolving archive, a visual language with the objective to create renewed awareness.
These actions reflect on my instinctive decisions and help me gain deeper understanding of the subconscious that drives my work.
