Born in Athens
in1955.
Studied painting in London until 1980 at St Matins School of Art.
Works as a painter, print maker, book
illustrator and church-mural artist.
He has had many one man group shows of his
paintings in Greece and England. He has
represented Greece
in the 1984 Alexandria Biennale.
His work may be described as realistic, however
with many technical and stylistic variations. His great, almost fetichistic,
interest in materials and techniques, works alongside his academic interest for
the history of art that led him to editing books and curating exhibitions.
The subject matter is vast, focusing on
landscapes, still life, trees but also on the actual process of painting itself
and the world of his painting studio. During many years, his work was centred
on Mount Athos, resulting in a big retrospective exhibition at the Byzantine
Museum, in Athens. His appreciation of Byzantine Art led him also in the region
of Church art and especially murals. He is particularly interested in the
relation between tradition and contemporary art. His recent projects are
centred mainly on two subjects, Ruins and the topography of the Odyssey. During 2023 nad 2024 three major shows of his work will take place in Greece. A retrospective at the Greek National Library (Niarchos Foundation), the Odyssey project at the Benaki Museum in Athens and a coprehensive show of both exhibitions at the Teloglion Foundation in Thessaloniki.
