Kerstin Kager (1966, Graz, Austria) makes paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks. By creating new perspectives in her work, Kager tries to focus on the momentary and the intention of presenting.
After the studies in languages in French and German she has trained for many years as a teacher. In 2001 she absolved the study of art therapy in order to amplify her artwork. Since her childhood, colors and artwork fascinate Kerstin Kager. In her paintings, she is choosing expressive colors on the one side. On the other side, powerful drawings in black and white complete her work.
Her works are saturated with obviousness and dynamism. They question the coerciveness that is derived from the more profound meaning and the superficial aesthetic of an image. By replaying the work for each exhibition and pushing the evocative power of the work a little further, she makes works that can be seen as self-portraits. Sometimes they appear idiosyncratic and quirky, at other times, they seem typical by-products of the Austrian way of life.
Landscape and water such as human and animals are typical themes for the Austrian artist. Though she has always her sketchbook ready to catch remarkable moments on her way of life, in everyday life as well as on the road travelling around the world searching for the energy of a place and its emotional and spiritual vibrations.
Kerstin Kager has been exposing her work in different international exhibitions in Austria as in Europe (Italy, Germany, France) and USA. Her series of Africa have been exhibited in MedienKulturHaus in Wels (Austria). In 2018, she was a finalist Traun Art Prize. I
n 2019 she was represented by Saphira & Ventura at the Art Expo New York, in the Biennale of Venice, in the MIIT in Turin as in the Caroussel du Louvre in Paris in October 2019. In 2020 she had as solo exhibition in Florence, Italy.
