SINE QUA NON ART DEVELOPS A CHANGING, ELUSIVE AND ASSERTIVE CREATION.
FOUNDED IN LA ROCHELLE IN 2012 UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CHRISTOPHE BÉRANGER AND JONATHAN PRANLAS-DESCOURS, THE INTERDISCIPLINARY COMPANY DEVELOPS HYBRID AND COLLABORATIVE SCENIC WRITING. ATTACHED TO THE BODY, EACH CREATION RELIES ON CHOREOGRAPHIC ABSTRACTION, MUSICAL COMPOSITION AND THE POROSITY BETWEEN THE PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS. IT DRAWS THE WAVES OF WORKS FROM THE MANY FACETS OF HUMAN EXISTENCE, THE CHALLENGE OF TIME, SPACE AND THE ARTIST’S PLACE IN THIS CHANGING WORLD. IT REVEALS ON STAGE OUR PHYSICAL AND PSYCHIC STATES, OUR IMPULSES AND OUR PRINCIPLES, OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE WORLD AND TO OURSELVES.
SINE QUA NON ART PRODUCES ATYPICAL CREATIONS THAT ANCHOR THE IMAGINATION IN THE PRESENT.
One comes from fine arts, went through theater before training dance at P.A.R.T.S., the school founded in Brussels by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. Performer, we find Jonathan Pranlas-Descours in specific project with Romeo Castellucci, Sasha Waltz, Hans Van Den Broeck, Mathilde Monnier … The other, more stowed for the body, started awarded at the Conservatory of La Rochelle. Christophe Béranger joined the National Choreographic Center Ballet de Lorraine in 1992, where he was an interpreter, choreographer and artistic assistant for 22 seasons. In 2003, he received the knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for his contribution to the CCN and his commitment into out reach activities. These different background of performers, rich in experiences in their diversity, are at the base of the work in tandem, complementary led by the two artists. In 2012, they start working together and found their company SINE QUA NON ART, in La Rochelle.
In 2013 they are laureates of TANZ RESEARCH NRW#13, in Koln, that allows them to create ‘’ Exuvie ‘’ their famous creation in 150 kg of wax. The same year they are Artists of the year of P.S.O. french network for young artist for their solo « Topie Impitoyable ». In 2014 they won the first prize in (Re) -connaissance (the national french competition) with their work ‘’ Des ailleurs sans lieux ‘’. They confirme their relationship with visual art/set design and live music with ‘‘Give me something that does not die’’, creation 2016 with 80 hanging knives that rise up during the performance. Their collaboration with live musicians who create specifically for their choreographic works, is even stronger in their latest creation 2018 ‘’ VERSUS ‘’ that combines dance – visual arts with electronic music and baroque singing. With « VERSUS » they are laureates SACD for creating music for stage and that receive the CDC group price – New Talent Dance 2018.
The triptyque – Desires's Series#1 (Performative installation – 2019) / Our desires make disorder (Stage piece for 11 dancers – 2021) / O futuro é ancestral (Immersive performance and exhibition – Winner of the Franco-Brazilian ''Cruzamentos'' program – 2022) marks a turning point in their collaboration and affirms the visual art dimension of their creations, no longer as scenography or set design, but as Body-Scenography / Immersive process for the public.
Meanwhile, they create commissioned work for national company in France for the ballet of the Opera de Metz and the international one, as recently as for the National Ballet of Kosovo’’Recomposed’’ for 24 dancers. In 2018, they created a ‘’ Rite of spring – Consagracion‘’ for the contemporary dance company Danza Contemporánea de Cuba in Havana with 105 live musiciens. They won the price Villanueva of critics for the best performance 2018. Their creations have been presented in Lebanon, Brazil, Macao, Luxembourg, Germany, Cuba, Singapore, Kosovo … They are appointed in 2017 artistic coordinators of the training program Atlantic Ballet Contemporain – ABC, higher education program in contemporary dance, that depends of the Conservatory and the University of La Rochelle.
