Ouyang Jiamin, born on November 28, 1994, in Wuhan, Hubei, China, is an artist specializing in installation art, covering static and dynamic sculptures, as well as video. Her works often incorporate digital technology due to her background in geoinformatics. Ouyang studied Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Wuhan University and Universität Stuttgart, before pursuing her studies under Professor Pia Stadtbäumer at Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, where she has completed her undergraduate degree and is currently a graduate student.
Her art consistently delves into the impacts of technological progression on society and interpersonal relationships, as well as the intricate relationships between individuals, society, and technology as reflected in social events. Currently residing between Hamburg and Berlin, she is engaged in an art project focusing on the residential migrations caused by dam constructions in China.
Beyond the visual, Ouyang's works incorporate extensive textual research and attempts at mathematical modeling, aiming to inductively explore and seek answers to pertinent social issues, which are subsequently presented through her installations. This methodology endows her creations with a profound scholarly and contemplative dimension, prompting audiences to engage deeply with societal challenges, and facilitating a mutual advancement of art and society.
