As the artist Park Seo-Bo once said 'a persons character must be formed before they can make art'.
Whether or not this is applicable to all artists is up for debate but in my case I felt the need to mold, practice and understand my own strengths and skills before approaching art as a profession.
Having focused on portraiture for a long time I became frustrated that I couldn't capture the essence of the subject until it became apparent to me that art is expressed without inhibition. Letting go of 'classical' shapes and techniques suited my own temperament I began to freely experiment with open brushstrokes . My work aims to explore the emotion and intensity of the world around me in it's rawest form. I paint quickly and with energy even allowing for mistakes to be removed within the same sitting. A thought, moment or feeling are always organic with the ability to transform at any time and that is why I try to capture an image in as honest a state as possible.
