Joseph Jeantet is a French painter based in Paris.
After studying graphic design at University of the Arts in London, he founded a studio where music, photography and film converge. Fifteen years later, he’s drawn to rethink his practice and reconnects with his first love: painting.
He works from primary materials, ink, pure pigments ... He sees his paintings as places to stop, to get lost, perhaps to go back. Influenced by jazz, he advocates the emotional power of freedom within structure. For him, to paint is to be like a child who discovers the world without the weight of conventions. It is about finding a gap between what we know and what we are searching for, between the past and the future; an intuition which escapes reason.
