Born in 1980 in the south of France, he became passionate about photography as a teenager. It was in one of the gardens of Seville that he became aware of this light that he never left his gaze...
He then participated in workshops and began studying photography. After that he moved to London and then Paris. It was after a trip to Iceland in 2009 that he decided to focus his work on the themes of nature, the sea and the people who live off these various resources.
His approach is above all journalistic and documentary. It addresses environmental, social and economic issues. He enjoys working alongside scientists and anthropologists with whom he collaborates in parallel on these various subjects. Today, coastal areas are its living spaces. He works in different port cities... Jean-Marc Balsière has been a member of the Hans Lucas studio since July 2016.
