Born 1986 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, Yuki Ideguchi received his BFA and MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2007 and 2013 respectively. Ideguchi’s works are a fusion of traditional Japanese painting techniques and modern images, themes, and practices, often incorporating motifs of Japanese nature, life and death, and the cyclical nature of history and culture.
In 2011, Ideguchi participated in Seoul’s Asia Student and Young Artist Art Fair, as well as Japan’s Asahi Newspaper Next Generation Art Exhibition. In 2012, Ideguchi was selected as a scholarship recipient of the Mitsubishi Art Gate Program. Since moving to the US in the fall of 2013, Ideguchi has focused his efforts on the international art scene and has been an active participant in exhibitions such as the Representative Art Exhibition of Japan in Paris, and other exhibitions in Seoul, India, Poland, Shanghai, Taiwan, and the United States. Contemporarily, Ideguchi continues to work as an artist in New York City, the pinnacle of the modern art world.
After experiencing production and exhibition in Japan and abroad, Ideguchi began to produce paintings using various painting materials in the process of flexibly dealing with every situation. On the canvas, the method of painting together the Nihonga(Japanese style painting) material and the spray which used for graffiti (street art) on the street is his own technique. By aggressively using acrylic paint, spray paint and newly developed pigment (powder pigment) developed in modern times, various expressions which can not be expressed with conventional Japanese painting materials are created on the canvas.
