Hye Shin was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1969. She received a BFA in Fiber Arts in 1992 from the School of Fine Art at Ewha Women’s University in Korea as well as an MFA in 1994. In 1998 Shin earned another MFA in Textiles from the Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana, United States. In 1999 and 2000 the artist attended an artist-in-residency program at Worcester Center for Craft in Worcester, Massachusetts, US. Since 2003 Shin has been teaching at Crealde School of Art in Winter Park. She was awarded Professional Development Grants for Established Artists by United Arts of Central Florida in 2007, 2010 and 2013 and recently completed an Art in Public Buildings Project for the Digital Scholarship Lab at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne. Shin’s first solo exhibition was in 2004 at ARC Gallery in Chicago. Since then she has had numerous group and solo shows around the USA as well as South Korea. She is now an Artist-in-Action at Maitland Museum of Art and History in Florida, US.
