Ryo Hidaka is a line artist who creates art with “Kanji” as the main element, combining the essence of Japanese calligraphy and Western abstract painting. His works have spread and attracted a lot of attention, especially on social networking sites. The coined term “line artist” refers to a unique method of expression that combines Japanese calligraphy and Western abstract painting.
While working as an active engineer, Hidaka has expressed various “inner selves” through calligraphy and music. Based on his motto, “Inspire Expression,” he continues to share the joy of self-expression.
Self Introduction
September 1996: Born in Tokyo, raised in Saitama.
April 2003: Started playing the electone in elementary school.
April 2012: Started calligraphy in junior high school.
March 2015: Awarded multiple times in the calligraphy junior high school division in Tokorozawa, Saitama.
February 2019: Passed the second screening in the TOHOKU LOVE 2018 GAKUSEI MOVIE CONTEST.
March 2019: Graduated from Tokyo University of Science.
March 2022: Officially starts his artist activities.
Production Style
Ryo Hidaka work is a fusion of abstract expression and calligraphy, using transparent and opaque watercolor. Transparent watercolor emphasizes a soft, delicate touch, while opaque watercolor clearly outlines the outlines with a painting knife. In this way, the artist expresses a unique beauty born from the fusion of color and line. Masking tape and masking ink are sometimes used in his works.
