Gill Hewitt is a Textile Artist and Painter based in Bath, UK but originally from Lancashire. Her love of textiles began as a young child, influenced by her grandmother who was a weaver and embroiderer.
Gill studied for an MA Textiles at Bath School of Art and Design gaining a Distinction in 2008. Her specialism became the development of richly textured textiles, produced by assembling a collage of fibres and hand-dyed fabrics in a painterly way, and blending them using a needle punch machine.
She received an Innovation Award from the University for the research and development of sound-absorbing art panels.
Gill set up her current studio painting and making art panels in 2008 and her working practice continues to evolve through experimentation.
Inspiration is found from within the structure and rhythms of nature particularly the landscape, the degradation of materials over time and the mysterious and transient effects of light and shadows.
