Shirin Hashemi is an architectural designer and multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto, Canada. Holding a Bachelor of Environmental Design from OCAD University and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics from Azad University, her practice operates at the intersection of structural geometry, fine art, and psychological space. Hashemi’s work is deeply informed by the structural, multi-focal logic of Persian miniature painting, exploring the tension between presence and absence. She utilizes manual fabrication techniques—such as hand-crafting irregular wooden frames of variable depths—to transform two-dimensional paintings into layered, three-dimensional relief sculptures. Her current work focuses on the concept of the "Living Archive," utilizing fragmented architectural layouts and symbolic residues to investigate identity and the shifting landscapes of human memory. Hashemi’s work has been widely recognized in Canada; she is the recipient of the 2026 Creative Innovation Award from the Society of Canadian Artists and the People's Choice Award at the Latcham Art Centre Annual Juried Exhibition.
