Victoria is an English photographer based in Southport who works in artistic photography - the Art of Noticing. Influenced by the quote by Camille Pissarro ‘Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing’. A photographer for 20 years and an Outsider artist untrained and uninfluenced by the art world. She nurtures her own vision, techniques and creates art with a unique eye.
Victoria seeks to make the unseen seen for the art is in the seeing. Victoria documents patina on architecture. Each picture invites contemplation, offering a unique sensory and psychological experience where patina, colour and texture play an essential role in the harmony and balance of space. Close up photography offers an opportunity to notice a moment in time and degeneration.
Her work centres on forming a deeper relationship to places through close examination of the landscape and built environment.
Naturally occurring layers form on the surface of an object over time due to air, water or other environmental or unintended factors. The hidden aesthetic. Looking closely we too observe and share the wonderful colours and textures. Some materials fade revealing colours underneath or nature reclaiming the environment. Where we initially see degradation or decay there is beauty. Although the observation is purposeful, many of the discoveries are accidental.
Victoria’s works reminds us that the way we view aging in society can be reflected in how we view the materials around us. Young vibrant materials and colours will give way to the inevitable aging process but we should appreciate the process that leads to hidden worth and beauty.
