Yvonne Hakkert about her art
digital paintings
When I started working on the computer, I developed a fascination for the programming codes. These long lists of codes somehow translated to me as a form language that interested me. Although I am not really technically oriented, I noticed that I could understand these codes very quickly and very easily. Of course I had to do something with this. Eventually this led to my first digital artworks.
digital art images became possible
Later, when the internet came into being and computers became faster, the production and transfer of complex digital images became possible, and I immediately realized what enormous possibilities this offered for my art. Not the artistic process itself, but the actual craft of producing, painting and drawing would change drastically. My art would be within the reach of many more people, and I would also be able to express a much larger part of my visual world. I found that fascinating. In the beginning I got lost in the internet world and its technical applications. In graphic design I was able to express a lot of myself. I developed the first interactive websites and was able to use many of my images there. But in the end this did not really satisfy me. The transience of the medium and the large number of fast businessmen made me feel less at home in this world. I wanted to create images that are permanent.
digital artwork
Then I started making digital artworks that were printed on large format glossy photo paper. When creating these works I use images with a very high resolution to enable a high-quality production of very large formats. I also investigated the possibility of printing my images on glass, ceramic steel and other durable materials. With the continuous development of printing techniques it is becoming increasingly possible to use digital images on almost any surface. I am fascinated by the idea of my work being seen in public spaces on a very large scale, printed or projected, on buildings, large objects, screens, walls, etc.
digital images and digital music
Another possibility I am looking at is the connection between digital images and digital music. When schematizing or digitizing the shapes of an image, could you translate these schemas into music, and what would my photo art sound like?
my art
I think the real work for any artist is to show yourself in all your nakedness to the viewer. It sometimes makes me feel very vulnerable, but at the same time I find it very inspiring. Of course I hope that the buyers of my art will have a positive experience with it, but ultimately I make my art from myself, for myself. What it means to other people is secondary. You either understand the image or you don't. It's that simple.
