Hilal Gülsen is a contemporary mixed-media artist from Schleswig-Holstein with a professional background in the IT industry. Her artistic practice emerged from personal experiences of neurodivergent perception, as well as from confronting social exclusion, lack of inclusion, and the search for belonging — both from an individual perspective and through her experience as the mother of neurodivergent children.
In her works, she combines symbolic imagery with relief-like surfaces, organic materials, and layered structures to make inner states of tension visible. Recurring elements such as roots, cracks, gears, and fragmented figures symbolize sensory intensity, masking, emotional overload, and the struggle to preserve connection and identity within a normalized society.
Between darkness and hope, her works translate psychological inner worlds into a physical, almost tangible form. The aim of her artistic practice is to foster social awareness and create spaces for greater inclusion, acceptance, and authentic self-expression — particularly for neurodivergent individuals whose perception often remains unseen.
