Guillaume de Baudus grounds his artistic approach in a long experience with space and the built environment. Trained in interior architecture at the École Nissim de Camondo and a graduate of the Grande Chaumière, he practiced architecture for more than thirty-five years. This architect’s perspective now informs a body of work imbued with a profound sensitivity to structures, echoing Baudelaire, for whom “Nature is a temple where living pillars / Sometimes let out confused words.”
Based in his studio in Sèvres, the artist devotes himself primarily to oil painting, drawing, and sculpting. His practice explores a wide variety of subjects: from dense forests to mountain peaks, from expansive seascapes to urban landscapes viewed from rooftops. He also delves into the inner worlds of caves and caverns, using a textured brushstroke to make mineral and organic materials palpable. His exploration is not limited to natural landscapes but also extends to the human figure, whose nudes he captures to express the hopes and sufferings of human beings.
At the heart of his work, Guillaume De Baudus seeks the vibrant connection between humanity and nature in all its forms. His compositions are not mere figurative representations, but metaphors for the elevation of the soul. Whether it is the verticality of trees or the depth of subterranean caverns, each subject becomes a vehicle for inner transcendence .
