MAGDALENA
GRYSKA
Magdalena Gryska was born on October 26, 1965 in Poznań. In the years 1987-92 she
studied at the State College of Visual Arts in Poznań (PWSSP, now the
University of Arts) and graduated in painting in the Professor Jacek Waltoś’s
studio. In the years 1990-91 Gryska was a visiting student of the École
nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in
Paris, in the Professor Alfredo Zawaro’s painting studio. She took her PhD in
painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2000. In 2009 Gryska
received her post-doctoral degree on the basis of artistic achievements and the
dissertation Niebieska Melancholia czyli cisza w obrazie (The Blue Melancholy, or
the Silence in the Painting) from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (reviewed
by Prof. Andrzej Banachowicz, Prof. Andrzej Klimczak
Dobrzaniecki, prof. Jacek Dyrzyński, and
Prof. Stanisław Rodziński).
Since 1992, the artist has been working at the University of Zielona
Góra, running a degree studio of painting. Since 2011, she has been working as
an associate professor at the Institute of Visual Arts, Faculty of Arts,
University of Zielona Góra.
In the years 2003-2008 she ran the “Stara Winiarnia” Gallery in Zielona Góra.
Gryska co-creates Miejsce Aktywności Twórczej Kosobudki 3 (the Place of
Creative Activity Kosobudki 3) - a site for artistic activities and development
projects. She lives in Zielona Góra and Kosobudki. The artist is engaged in
painting, object and short video forms. She has had around 40 solo exhibitions
and participated in about 100 group exhibitions in Poland, Germany, France, the
Czech Republic, Slovakia, China, Italy, Austria, the USA and Ukraine. Her works
are in many public and private collections in Poland and abroad.
