Born and raised in the Sonoran Desert in Mexico, Marcela Gracia Acosta grew up surrounded by the extreme weather that now shapes her sensibility towards the world; its fragility and its extremes. She has a Bachelor of Architecture by the University of Arizona and a Master of Architecture by the University of Virginia, and her art is highly influenced by the sense of space and place instilled in her by her education. Gracia Acosta combines her Architecture profession with her art, making highly detailed drawings to amplify what we seldom see. Her usual topics include the human body and nature. She strives to strengthen the relationship we have with the elements that surround us, those that we take for granted. Working exclusively in black and white, Gracia Acosta looks for the mundane and lets it speak through the play of light and shadow that makes our world visible. She has been part of collective exhibitions in Tubac, Arizona; San Diego, California; Tijuana, Mexico, among others.
