Bruno Gouagout, artist Morpho, is a multi-disciplinary artist. Born in 1985 in France, he developed a strong taste for artistic creation from an early age. Suffering from a genetic disease, art in all its forms allowed him to escape during his long stays in hospital.
It
is after having completed his Bachelor of Plastic Arts at the
University of Corte in Corsica (including a year of Graphic Design in
Athens) that he established himself in Guyana as a Professor of Applied
Arts, in 2009. He created and built his house in the heart of the
Amazon, integrating architecture, sculpture, painting, design,
traditional and modern materials.
Since
2015, he has perfected his mastery of digital tools and is dedicated to
the creation of anamorphic sculptures, that is to say sculptures
offering different faces depending on the angle of view. These objects
are illuminated at precise angles in order to cast their shadows on
panels or painted canvases. Navigating between crafts, decorative arts
and plastic arts, his work is transversal and versatile. He plays with
know-how and eras, mixing centuries-old techniques such as leaf gilding
and advanced technologies such as 3D printing. Constantly experimenting,
each of his works is unique and the opportunity to perfect new
know-how.
His
intention, with these works, is to foster multiple visions, to keep in
mind that things can only be apprehended after having observed them in
all their aspects. Bring the viewer back and forth between what they perceive and what they understand, between the overall vision and the details. Much
like the cubists who decomposed the objects, he tries to decompose the
ideas, to promote understanding and raise new questions. It
questions general notions such as art, spirituality, territory,
tradition and modernity, etc., through universal messages that can also
surprise or disturb.
A
fervent admirer of Leonardo da Vinci, he was inspired by the Total Art
movement and is influenced by artists such as Marcus Raetz and Banksy.
Until now, Morpho had chosen to be discreet in the world of Art. This year, he decided to share his artistic universe with as many people as possible.
