Laurent is a Franco-Ontarian visual artist settled in Toronto/Tkaronto.
His artworks result from a unique combination of characteristic pictural elements from two of his regions of origin: the Mille-fleurs from Western France and the Polynesian Tattoo as a way to cover his paintings with monochromatic and detailed floral patterns.
With his paintings, whose meticulous creation requires time and patience, Laurent tries to convey the sensations experienced by people with Sensory Processing Sensitivity, seeking to represent the mental blur and ways found to balance oneself facing this pressure.
Reclaiming one’s Cultural Heritage :
Laurent enhances the use of Polynesian symbols, traditionally combined to create Tattoo, to figure narrative elements answering contemporary issues and choosing specific colour palettes.
Focusing his work on identities and the dialogue between the various aspects of his family backgrounds, he picks out within a wide variety of themes and researches including colonialism, environmental issues or Love, to demonstrate the versatility of his visual identity, and to highlight various messages of inclusivity and understanding of today’s society.
Committed to supporting the representation of human diversity in the Arts, Laurent has experience in Community Art and participatory artistic creation.
