My name is David Gonzalez Restrepo, I was born in Pereira, Colombia. My entire life I was inspired by nature, science, and how humans interact with it. I’ve been painting since I was young. Sketching photos of people in my neighborhood and the natural environments they lived in.
In my early twenties, I went to study chemistry and technology at the Technological University of Pereira. There, I focused on Industrial Chemistry and studied deeply under great scientific minds.
Although I loved my chemistry coursework, I was craving a creative outlet. In 2011, I took my first drawing and painting course at the university and it changed my life. Since then I’ve made many artistic works sourcing from elements in science and nature. I love unifying different scientific concepts with art.
Today, my greatest accomplishment is achieving the title of Chemical Technologist and Industrial Chemist. The two titles give me a special lens through which to create artwork making each of my pieces unique and scientifically sound.
The heart of my work lies in nature, science, and humanity.
I am deeply inspired by nature because I think it’s the ultimate role model for all artists. It’s the first image of beauty, balance, and perfection. I’m interested in solving social problems. Most of humanity’s problems can be interpreted through the lens of art and art can inspire new solutions. I love how art can be used to awaken people to social problems in a creative way. Ultimately, my work seeks to understand the position of humans in the universe and imagine how our problems can be solved.
I hope my work creates an impact. My art seeks to understand what we as humans are. Exploring how we’re made of matter and energy, getting down to particles and the molecular level. My work seeks to understand our role in the universe. My art is revolutionary. It’s in tune with the problems and solutions of humanity.
