Sebastian Gierz graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and studied mathematics and computer science in the same city. He later continued his education in art history at the University in Poznań and at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
He has been involved in the art world since 2000 as an artist, curator and collector.
Since 2020, he has been creating the “Nouvelle Vague” series – symmetrical, expressive diptychs in ultramarine blue that explore the foundations of creativity in the age of AI.
In 2024, the series was presented twice in Warsaw, including a solo exhibition at Format Koncept. In June 2024, it had its official world premiere at the exhibition “The Land of Silence” at Palazzo Pisani Revedin in Venice. The 60th Venice Art Biennale, taking place at the same time, brought the series remarkable visibility among collectors and curators, which led to a major solo exhibition in Paris in February 2025. The show featured more than 100 works from the “Nouvelle Vague” series, as well as “canvases to wear” from the same series and a limited edition of “Nouvelle Vague” prints produced by the Warsaw-based Kwiaciarnia Grafiki. The exhibition was enriched by talks from Sylwia Ziętek and Borysław Czyżak, respected Polish authors writing on art. The success of the Paris exhibition led to an invitation to Paris Art Expo in December 2025.
The growing international popularity of the “Nouvelle Vague” series brought an invitation to the exhibition “Identity” in Seoul, which aimed to place the work of Korean artists alongside artists from the rest of the world. A painting from the “Nouvelle Vague” series represented Europe in the NEXT GENERATION ARTISTS section. The exhibition took place in September 2026.
