Guy Ghazanchyan was born in 1991 in Yerevan
(Armenia) into a family of hereditary artists. From a very early age, he was
immersed in the atmosphere of the continuous creative process and exhibition
activities of his parents, which may have contributed to the fact that from an young
age Guy presented himself only as an artist.
At the age of 16, Guy Kazanchyan entered the
Yerevan Academy of Arts, the Faculty of Painting. In 2011, his diploma work “I
KNOW WHERE IT'S FLYING”, oil on canvas, 200 x 150cm was awarded the highest prize
of the Academy of Arts - the Eduard Isabekyan Prize.
In 2012, Guy was sent by the Academy of Arts
for a residency at the "Cité des Arts" Paris, France, which became a
powerful impetus for the start of his creative and exhibition activities.
Guy's figurative, monumental paintings are
dynamic and mysterious. Flight and freedom, freedom of movement, freedom of
thought - these are the themes of Guy Ghazanchan’s works of this period. Along
with painting, Guy creates several sculptural works in bronze, which are characterized
by their bright individuality and unusual themes. He opened personal
exhibitions in his native Yerevan, as well as in Wiesbaden (Germany), Groningen
(Holland), Zurich (Switzerland), Beirut (Lebanon). Starts cooperation with
AvestArt Gallery -https://www.avestart.ch/artist/guy-ghazanchyan.
In 2016, Guy Ghazanchyan's painting, a triptych
entitled "Behind the Walls", was awarded the 2015 Youth Prize of the
Armenian President Art.
In 2017, under the curatorship of the AvestArt
gallery, in Washington DC (USA), the artist holds a solo exhibition “Traveling
Without Moving” in the “Latela gallery”.
Since 2019, member of the Union of Artists of
Armenia.
The war of 2020 in Nagorno-Karabakh, the human
casualties, the incessant pain of constant losses and the uncertainty of the
future, all this marked the beginning of a completely new period in the work of
Guy Ghazanchyan.
In 2021, the Yerevan Museum of Modern Art
hosted a large exhibition of Guy's works, entitled "AKANates"
(witness), and for the play of letters, the title can be translated as
"The One who saw the mines". The works of this period are expressive
and have a special energy, these are images of men, rather young men ... -
these are faces with a frozen question in their gaze …
Two paintings and one sculpture from the
exhibition were included in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Modern
Art and were also printed in the museum's album of 2022.
In 2022, Guy creates a new life-affirming
series of portraits of beautiful young self-confident people of the new
generation. The exhibition of the project "IUVENIS" (Youth) was held
in the halls of "Art Kvartal", Yerevan.
The search for a new image of the man of today
remains the main component of Guy Ghazanchyan's creative work. https://guyghazanchyan.com/.
