Erica
Gariboldi (Varese, 1994) is an emerging visual artist in the Italian
scene, moving between Venice, Turin, Genoa, and Milan. Her academic
background spans visual arts and humanities: she graduated with
honors in Cultural Heritage Studies from the University of Milan and
later specialized in Visual Arts at IED (Istituto Europeo di Design)
Milan, with honors. She is currently working full-time with the
artistic collective Studio Azzurro at Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan. Her
passion for anthropology and material culture fuels much of her
research, which explores pre-verbal communication as a means to open
"threshold spaces" where certain values of the contemporary
dominant system can be temporarily set aside, allowing room for
alternative ways of understanding the world and connecting with the
Other.
Her
main expressive mediums are currently video art, photography, and
performance, but she continues to practice freehand drawing and
painting, which remain for her the first and most direct way to
visualize a concept, and thus, the beginning of any project. She
believes that all research today must be a quest for connection.
She
has exhibited, among others, at Galleria Ca' Pesaro (Venice, Biennale
2024 program), Spazio Musa (Babele, Turin) and S.M. di Castello (La
Quinta Stagione 2024, Genoa).
