Gaël Le Vaillant, 53, currently lives and works between Nantes and Fougères.
After attending the Maximilien Vox School of Books and Graphic Arts in Paris, he pursued further artistic studies at the School of Fine Arts, followed by training in community-based arts education in Brittany.
As an artist and intermittent performing arts professional, he leads artistic projects with Orange Compagnie and various collectives and cultural institutions, blending visual and performing arts to create "situational art" through shows, happenings, and performance pieces.
Employing a wide range of painting techniques, he spent 20 years selling thousands of drawings and paintings—which have found homes around the world—through his "Galerie Maraîchère" (Market-Garden Gallery) as well as other galleries and events.
In 2020, drawn to the world of poetry publishing, he trained in typography at the Nantes Printing Museum and Workshop and launched the "Atelier de la Grosse Bertha." He has since dedicated himself to printmaking—exploring everything from linocut to stenciling—and to urban art projects.
Today, Gaël Le Vaillant has returned to painting with a fresh approach. Seeking a "surreal" quality of light, his style has become more deliberate, while still retaining its expressionist nature and the freedom of his brushwork and artistic commitment.
Gaël Le Vaillant, 53 ans, vit et travaille aujourd'hui entre Nantes et Fougères.
De l’École du livre et des arts graphiques Maximilien Vox à Paris, il poursuit des études artistiques aux Beaux-arts, puis dans l’éducation populaire en Bretagne.
En tant qu'artiste auteur et intermittent du spectacle, il dirige des actions artistiques avec Orange Compagnie et différents collectifs et institutions culturelles, mêlant arts plastiques & arts vivants pour un art de la situation dans des spectacles, happening et performances.
En multipliant les techniques picturales, il vend en itinérance pendant 20 ans des milliers de dessins et peintures partis à travers le monde avec sa Galerie Maraîchère; et autres galeries et événements.
En 2020, sensible à l'édition poétique, il se forme à la typographie au Musée atelier de l'imprimerie de Nantes, et lance l'atelier de la Grosse bertha. Il s'investit dans l'estampe qu'il décline de la linogravure jusqu'au pochoir, et dans des projets d'art urbain.
Aujourd'hui, Gaël Le Vaillant reprend la peinture avec de nouvelles dispositions. En quête d’une lumière “surréelle”; sa facture devient plus posée, tout en conservant sa nature expressionniste et la liberté de son trait, et de son engagement.
