Sandra A. Fuchs has been working with glass since 2002, in particular in the are as of cold work, fusing and flame work and has undertaken additional advanced training for glass blowing at the, "Technical Collage of Glass for Design and Craft" in Kramsach, Austria, at "Abate Zanetti" – Scuola del Vetro, Murano, Italy and at "Cam Ocagi" – The Glass Furnace, Istanbul, Turkey.
Through numerous studies abroad she has gained a diverse and extensive educational background in glass. She embraces a multitude of techniques which she combines, adjusts and incorporates into her own creative style. Mainly she is working with a special manufacturing technique of kiln formed murrine, which has only been in existence since 1992. In this way she is able to create her own individual colour shade effects in glass like a painter.
Since 2014, Sandra has been working exclusively as an independent glass artist in her own glass studio creating objects that move the viewer as much with content as the time-consuming and complex manufacturing process required to make them. Her pieces share the same "spirit", an organic aesthetic. The themes which run through Sandra’s works are inspired by the beauty and power of nature and the topics of rising and growth – also in a spiritual way.
After showing her works at the "Eunique" Fair in Germany in 2016 for the first time, the highlights of 2017 included Sandra‘s exhibitions during the first edition of the Venice Glass Week, September 10th – 17th, 2017, at Museo Casa Goldoni, Venice, Italy, an exhibition and demo for "DP Murano Glass Meeting", as well as being part of the "Austrian Glass Core“show presented at Venice Art Factory.
An exhibition at Museum Zwiesel, Germany, a "Decorative Arts and Design" Fair at the German Historical Museum in Berlin, Germany, two exhibitions during the Glass Weekend Sarasota, Florida, USA in January 2017 and 2018 and the participation at the prestigious "Art &Antique Fair" at the Hofburg Vienna, Austria in 2017 and 2018 show how fast people connected with her work.
She was also exhibiting her creations at the Glass Art Society Convention in Murano, May 15th-20th, 2018 and was selected as Discovery Artist at TRESOR BASEL 2017, Switzerland.
Her work on the cover of the American glass magazine "The Flow“ was published in December 2016, an 7 page sartist’s portrait was published in the American "Glass Art Magazine", March/April 2018 issue.
MOTIVATION:
As Sandra wants to develope and invest more time in her sculptural works, she applies to the Artist in Residency trusting she will get new input by the people, environment and surrounding of unknown areas. To focus a special project without any deflections from the regular daily worklife guarentees a 100% commitment to realize a goal. A combination with other disciplines could be an option too, eg ceramic, wood or paper work in addition to Sandra's glass sculptures. To create her own glass elements, Sandra would ship her special kiln (running with regular electricity) and her glass. To recycle old glass from the residency's places might be a wonderful context of new artworks connected with the location where they will be created. First of all, it's her goal to let creativity flow.
