Fowler PhD is an artist and lecturer in Fine Art specializing in drawing,
painting, and stop frame animation. Prior to working at University of Cumbria, Fowler
spent 7yrs as a full-time lecturer in the Scottish Prison Service – teaching
predominantly life-sentence prisoners in Scotland's maximum security prisons.
Trained in Drawing & Painting at Glasgow School of
Art, Winchester School of Art and Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, Fowler’s current series of anti-capitalist
montages - inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s Epic Theatre, John Berger’s essays and the anti-establishment
writings of Tom Leonard – seek to reframe the stories we tell ourselves about
ourselves in order to challenge ruling class ways of seeing, knowing and
telling.
