My writings are conceptual methods to engage in political reflections and geopolitical preoccupations: pursuing urgent theoretical investigations on critical theory, language, and ontology in relation to photography in our post-technical age. My artistic publications are constantly being handmade, self-published, illustrated, and sometimes exhibited in Haus der Kunst or in self-conceptualized exhibitions. Importantly, my artistic practice steadily confronts languages of identity in order to transcend its categorizations of fundamentality and to occupy in-between states, the crossing places where art and logic become metamorphosis. Furthermore, my artistic practice expresses itself prominently through writing, and hand-making books on non-traditional materials such as butter paper, shoe soles, and photographic emulsion lifts. I work with an emphasis on site-specificity and seek to reveal the paradoxes of language and representation, and in so doing, to navigate and transcend beyond medium and into self-reflection and attunement. I work in code, vector graphics, interactive installations and 3D virtual models, new media, and sound. I am primarily interested in the intersection of post-technology and art, exposing the thresholds and tensions between the idea and its material implementation(s).
Born in Romania in 2002, I immigrated to French & English-speaking southwestern Ontario, Canada at the age of 4 following a family tragedy. Growing up in London, Canada, with an eagerness to exchange and digress my poetics of dislocation and peculiar ontological investigations - I quickly found the epistemological outlet in the critical and theoretical sphere of art and philosophy. At 15, I began training and working professionally in the Canadian art industry as a writer and curator for the contemporary art magazine, Centered.ca, (*2017 in London) Museum London (*2017 in London), and DNA Artspace (*2018 in London). Simultaneously conceptually studying fine art painting and photography at the BealArt institution and Fanshawe College. At 19, I initiated, curated, and wrote the publication of the large-scale exhibition, To be an Angular Something as a Round Nothing, on the intrinsic inauthenticity, between the Nuremberg and Munich Academies, as well as became a founding member of the international artist collective Bricking Through and taking over the Jour Fixe artist talk series. Last month, two weeks ago became the youngest prize-winner to hold the Max-Ernst Stipendium and a recipient of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Folkes. I continue to realize performances and collective space-related exhibitions daily, using the photograph as an attunement for research.
Currently, I am working together with a nuclear physicist and friend from Canada, experimenting with audio/visual sound mapping using electronic synthesizers and field recordings of our extensive travels through eastern Europe. (with an emphasis on Romania.) We plan to create an experimental publication and website archive of our work and are also shooting a film on 16mm which we will then manifest as a dual over-lapping experience with the sound. Our emphasis is on recording the interdisciplinary affects the sound and video have on each other, and the way in which this Relation can and cannot be recorded. The ‘Sound - Publication’ is the key component of this project.
