Emily Smitt (b. 1959, Amsterdam) is a Dutch multidisciplinary artist working from her studio-home in Almere, the Netherlands. After a long career as an author, entrepreneur, and senior project manager in the Information Technology (IT) sector, she chose to dedicate herself fully to visual art. Rather than abandoning her background of structure and precision, she uses it as an invisible infrastructure to guide her current creative process. As an autodidact and a lifelong student of the craft, Smitt rejects fast-paced trends and visual abundance. Her practice centers on what she terms 'the discipline of silence'—a focus on attention, patience, and the slow experience of making. Her diverse oeuvre spans botanical watercolor studies, pastel and oil portraits exploring psychological depth, and tactile sculptures cast in bronze and hand-formed in black stone clay. Her quiet approach has been recognized internationally through her inclusion in the curated catalog
Artisti ’26 – 50 Contemporary Art Icons (presented in New York) and the exhibition of her sculpture 'Titus van Rijn' at the
Palacio de Santoña in Madrid. Her comprehensive portfolio and current practice are documented on her website at emilysmitt.com.
