Els Devrieze is a Belgian visual artist born in Bruges and currently based near Antwerp. She studied Fine Arts at the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in Bruges and later obtained a degree in Photography through the Belgian Examination Board.
Working primarily through abstract painting, Devrieze explores themes of presence, perception, memory, and the subtle traces that shape our experience of the world. Through carefully considered compositions, material sensitivity, and restrained visual language, she creates works that reveal themselves gradually and invite attentive looking.
Her practice is driven by an interest in what is not immediately visible: the shifts, tensions, and quiet transformations that emerge through time, light, and observation.
Her work has been exhibited in Belgium and internationally and is held in private collections in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Alongside her artistic practice, Devrieze has contributed illustrations to several published books, reflecting a longstanding engagement with visual storytelling and image-making.
