Group Artistic Biography — Elahe Ghazi & Ali Akbar Shafiei
Handwoven Carpet Artists | Isfahan, Iran
Elahe Ghazi and Ali Akbar Shafiei are a husband-and-wife artistic duo from Isfahan, Iran, united by their shared passion for the art of handwoven carpets. Their collaboration brings together traditional craftsmanship, emotional expression, and personal storytelling — woven into each piece they create.
Ali Akbar Shafiei is a second-generation carpet designer who grew up surrounded by the colors, textures, and traditions of Persian carpet art. Influenced by his father's lifelong career in fine carpet production, he draws inspiration from Iran's rich artistic past and translates it into a contemporary visual language. His designs reflect both cultural memory and deeply personal emotion.
Elahe Ghazi has dedicated years to mastering various aspects of this art form — learning weaving, design, natural dyeing, and the restoration of antique rugs. With a sharp eye for quality and a deep respect for traditional methods, she approaches each rug as a unique artistic creation. Her work blends classical techniques with modern sensibility, aiming to evoke connection and curiosity in viewers.
Together, they believe that a handwoven carpet is not just a decorative object, but a living canvas — a carrier of heritage, feeling, and silent narrative. Each of their pieces is the result of shared vision and hands-on collaboration, combining design, technical skill, and poetic intention.
Their goal is to reintroduce Persian carpets to the world not only as luxury items or traditional crafts, but as contemporary works of art with soul, voice, and story.
