Hello, my name is Carsten Eckstein and I was born on 18.11.1992 in a small town called Erbach. School for me was associated with a lot of work, there were a lot of subjects that I was not interested in, except two –art and sports –. Unfortunately, at our graduation ceremony, our English teacher could not be present due to his illness. However, the motto "stay hungry, stay foolish" he gave us has positively inspired and accompanied me up to this day. – The motto originates from a speech made by Steve Jobs in 2005 –. From 2014 to 2018 I studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Communication Design and graduated as a state-approved communication designer. At this time I specialized in graphic design and illustration. I love abstract, simplified forms that are standing in contrast with each other and creating tension. Also, I am always trying to find a method in my work. The methodical concept helps me to give a kind of structure to create a high variability in series and to avoid arbitrariness of the works. In the design process, I usually proceed systematically. For this, I determine the format, design elements, and type of composition. Similar to a legend in a book or the legend for an infographic. My hobbies are designing, drawing, painting, juggling, dancing, and writing poems. – Everything that has to do with creativity, excites me! – Until now I have not had the opportunity to exhibit my work, which I would love to do. I have presented my work in many galleries, but unfortunately without success. That's why I see the application for the Arte Laguna Prize 22.23 as a very positive and great opportunity; not only for me but also for all creative people who may have remained unknown until now!
