After an apprenticeship in photography and a course of study at the Institute for Communication and Design in Wiesbaden, the German-American Ali Eckert worked as a cameraman-director for advertising. He then moved into the feature film industry as a director and screenwriter. For many years he has devoted himself exclusively to fine art and works alternately in his studios in Berlin, Germany and Wisconsin, USA.
Drawing upon his multi-cultural identity, Ali Eckert reflects, questions and processes opposing poles in his art. They are manifested in his materials as well as in his associative narrations. Inspiration through pop culture, advertisement and movies is mirrowed in his techniques with video, photography, multi-media and mixed media.
The works of Ali Eckert have received several awards and are in possession of important collections such as the Sander Collection/Basel, the Zagoras Collection/Athen, German Art Fund Hungary/Budapest and the Neumann-Hug Collection/St.Urban.
