After that, came back to Japan and worked at the Joshibi Art University in Tokyo from 2017 to 2020. Engaged in research about nothingness and teaching pattern cutting technique.
Taking advantage of my experience as a pattern cutter, I am exploring the possibility of pattern cutting, which is not just about making clothes by modeling the body and packaging of things. Researching and producing ambiguity and credibility of things from the experience of having difficulty understanding languages while studying abroad. I noticed the paradox that the clearer the way of looking at things, the more ambiguous it is, and I think that by making an empty package (shell), I can approach the essence of things.
--- Production background---
I have been studying abroad in England for 2 years since 2014.
One day, when I went to a museum in Amsterdam for an extracurricular class at a university, a curator showed me many important archives in my possession.
I couldn't decipher those (probably important) materials at that time because I didn't understand English well. At that time, what came to my mind was, rather than trying to understand, "Is this really important material?" Of course, it must have been the case for those who could understand it, but for me, those materials were nothing important or anything, they were just paper with black ink.
It was an important experience in thinking about the essence of things, which is reflected in this work.
