Paul Dignan was born in Dundee, Scotland and have been based, along with my family in the rural community of Elmira, Ontario since leaving Scotland in 2003. These days he is primarily an abstract hardedge painter but previous studio work has included sculpture, digital photography and video installation. Dignan is a graduate of Grays School of Art, Aberdeen, Scotland and The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London and has undertaken a number of artists residencies including being a past recipient of The Rome Scholarship in Painting at The British School at Rome (1995). In 2013 he was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts ISCP New York Residency and has received numerous other major awards/grants including those from The Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council and The Scottish Arts Council. Venues of note that have exhibited Dignan's work include The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canada, The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada, The Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow, Scotland and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Skopje, FYR Macedonia. Dignan's work can also be found in numerous public and private collections including The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Unilever Collection, London and The Canada Council for the Arts. Dignan was recently shortlisted for The Wells Art Contemporary Awards held at The Bishop's Palace, Somerset, England.
