Carola Dewor is born in Altena, Westphalia, in 1955. She showed a pronounced artistic talent at an early age. At 17, she began studying visual communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier. After traveling abroad and moving to Berlin, she began studying Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in 1978. In 1986, she completed her studies as a master student of Prof. Klaus Fußmann. She has been working as a freelance artist ever since, and has been based in Tübingen since 1991.
In Berlin, she developed the theme that continues to shape her work today: the depiction of interiors. Her starting point was the streets, facades, and living spaces of the vibrant city, which fascinated her artistically. In doing so, she drew on the tradition of the French intimists Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, as well as Adolf von Menzel and Max Liebermann, whose depictions of everyday scenes particularly inspired her. Spaces speak. They are condensed biographies, mirrors of inner worlds, visible signs of invisible experiences. In the 1980s, Dewor combined this interest with the neo-expressive painting of her time and developed her own distinctive visual language.
