Joni Dennis is best known for her large oil and acrylic landscape and figure paintings. Her original work showed a keen interest in female empowerment and identity through body decoration, fashion and socially gestured interaction. She uses a combined array of painterly techniques, across her work including spray painting, stencilling, hand painting, foil and linocut images on Japanese paper used as collage over a painted background.
She brought her love of landscape and figurative work together in her 190 x 280cm oil and acrylic work, ‘Waltzing Matilda’ which earned her a fifth prize for painting at the Florence Biennale and a proposition from a Florentine gallery and hotelier.
The narrative continues with a touch of humour, playfulness and our relationships with everything.
