García de la Puente

Alberto García de la Puente (b. 2003, Spain) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Costa Rica since 2012. He holds a BA in Architecture and Fine Arts from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and will begin an MFA in Sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2026.

Working across installation, craft, and printmaking, García de la Puente transforms repurposed secondhand childhood objects material narratives. His practice contrasts childhood and adulthood, play and estrangement, innocence and the macabre, emphasizing on the absence of the child so the material traces speak. He uses repetitive, time‑based techniques, such as beading, tapestry, and crochet, to embody memory and trauma; patterns and meticulous labor become the work’s language. His work also addresses environmental concerns, war, and social pressures, treating artmaking as a way to metabolize experience through empathy, personification, and sustained craft.
